From code to grain

After more than 25 years in IT, I made the decision to swap the keyboard and mouse for hand tools. It wasn’t a rash choice — it was a long-overdue one. I wanted work I could touch, challenges could sand out instead of debug, and a finished product I could actually hold at the end of the day instead of another ticket closed.

Woodworking and turning gives me that. Every board has its own grain, its own quirks, its own history; no two pieces ever come out the same, and that’s exactly the point.

Timber with a story

I’m building this business around sustainable and recycled timber wherever I can — wood that’s salvaged, repurposed, or sourced from places like orchards, storm-felled trees and offcuts that would otherwise be discarded. That apple tree you’re about to cut down or the pile of old Rimu from the renovation you did years ago that’s been sat in your shed for decades? That has more character than anything off a shelf, and giving it a second life as a table, a bowl, or a cutting board just makes sense — for the timber, and for the planet.

If you’ve got a tree coming down, an orchard being cleared, or timber sitting around going to waste, I’d genuinely love to hear from you — it might be exactly what someone’s next piece is made from.

What I make

Turned bowls that are more an art piece rather than serving a function. I use everything. even the roots and ugly burls combined with a coloured epoxy resin for striking results. I also make commissioned custom furniture — dining tables, bench seats, entertainment units — through to smaller handmade pieces like end-grain cutting boards, coat racks and more. Everything is made by hand, one piece at a time, with an eye for the timber’s own character rather than fighting against it.

Let’s talk

Whether you’ve got a specific piece in mind or just want to see what’s possible with a piece of timber you already have, get in touch — I’d love to help bring it to life.
